From a symbol of heart-aching division to a symbol of spreading peace world wide

 自心痛的分裂象征走向世界的和平象征
 
The Dam of Peace stands tall across Dongchon-ri and Cheonmi-ri. The story of the fairly-built dam aside the dense woods goes back to the year 1986. At that time, several media reported that North Korea was constructing the Geumgangsan Dam, which would be capable of holding up to 20,000,000,000 tons of water, and that not only Gangwon-do and Gyeonggi-do, but also Seoul would be affected in case the dam collapses.

横跨华川郡华川邑东村里与杨口郡方山面天尾里屹立的平和水坝。郁郁苍苍的山林之间以秀丽的情景建立的平和水坝的故事可以追溯到1986年。当时，舆论媒体报道，北韩正在建设200亿吨左右的储水的金刚山水库，如果该水库崩溃，则不仅是江原道、京畿道，还会祸及首尔

 Thereupon, the people collected donations and contributed greatly to the construction of the Dam of Peace. The initial height of the dam was 80m, but another 45m was added in 2002 and the dam resulted to 125m in height, 601m in length, and a total water capacity of 2,630,000,000 tons.

由此，国民通过捐款，在北汉江水流淌的路口建设了平和水坝。开工当时，水库的高度为80米，但在2002年提升高度45米，增建为高度125米、长度601米、最大储水量26亿3千万吨的水库。

The start was as a symbol of division, but now, it’s both a representative tour spot of Hwacheon and a symbol of peace. Inside the dam, there stands the Water Culture Center. The center is featured in two upper floors and one underground floor, where diverse materials about the Dam of Peace and water itself are displayed. It would be nice to pay a visit after a walk around the Dam of Peace. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it is free of entrance charges. Near the dam, structures like the World Peace Bell Park and Bimok Park flavor the walk.

刚开始是分裂象征，但平和水坝现在是水之乡-华川的代表性安保旅行地的同时又是和平象征而得以重生。平和水坝内有水文化馆，其规模为地上二楼、地下一楼，展示着平和水坝与水相关各种资料。观赏平和水坝之后，可以移步到此处。上午9点开始到下午5点为止开馆，且为免费。平和水坝邻近有世界和平之钟公园、碑木公园等，可以一同观赏。
